Hundreds of participants will take part in a rally/press conference in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. The #2020Census is facing unprecedented challenges, including misinformation and the Trump Administration’s plan to add a last-minute, untested citizenship question. These challenges could undermine the integrity of Census data and hurt our communities for decades. We have to work together to overcome these challenges and help achieve a fair and accurate count for our communities.

Afterwards, our volunteers will go to local community commerce to  hang New York Counts 2020 posters in their business as a way to engage businesses and inform them of the importance of a fair count as well as to sustain visibility. Finally, we will host a press conference in Brooklyn with remarks by Mayor de Blasio and will also host community forums in all five boroughs throughout the week.

On the National Census Day of Action, we ask that classroom teachers throughout Ohio take a moment to incorporate a census activities or discussion into their classroom lesson or conversations. The Statistics in Schools site has a number of standards-aligned activities that cover grades 4-12 including “5-minute Challenges” for students to apply census data to everyday questions. We’re asking education stakeholders to share this message so that teachers in our school districts and school building can plan to participate in the National Census Day of Action. We ask that they share what activities they used in their classrooms and share images from their classrooms of students working on the activities or talking about the census. If they plan to post classroom pictures, we ask them to use the message “All Ohio Children Count!” or something similar and include the hashtag: #OH2020Census #2020CensusOHAction!
