ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION IN THE 2020 CENSUS – BY TEXTING!

Join the Census Outreach Texting Team and ensure that every person in the country is counted and has their voice heard in the 2020 Census! We’ll be reaching out via text message to people who may not yet responded to the 2020 Census

What to text another day? Individuals can sign up to text whenever texting opportunities are available as well as when your organization is hosting a textbank, and sign up for a training. We’ll be in touch about future textbank dates

Additional Details

HOW: We’re using a web browser-based platform called Spoke that allows you to text people via a local number, rather than your own cell phone. With your help, we can text people across the country and provide them with the information needed to respond to the 2020 Census. We will be offering Texter Trainings every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday to prepare you to send peer-to-peer messages via a computer.

WHAT: The census is a count of the U.S population that happens every 10 years. Filling out your census form helps determine how many books and computers our kids’ schools can afford, whether seniors in our communities can afford heating in the winter, if there are bus routes where we need them, and whether communities have fair political representation.

WHO: Census historically has not counted all population groups equally well. Time and time again the census has missed millions of us — including communities of color, LGBTQ people, people with disabilities, immigrants and refugees, people with low incomes or experiencing homelessness, and young children. There are many reasons for why they are missed–distrust in government, language isolation, lack of internet access, and other factors contribute to the undercount. Fortunately, with your help, we can potentially have a huge impact by encouraging response to the 2020 Census.
